Count Ferdinand Edzard of East Frisia

Edzard Ferdinand (* July 12, 1636 in Aurich, † January 1, 1668 in the North) is considered the " Earl of the North".

Life

Edzard Ferdinand was the youngest son of Count Ulrich II ( East Frisia) and Juliane, Countess of Hesse and belonged to the family of the Cirksenas in Ostfriesland. He attended from the age of 14 academies of Breda, and Tubingen. As part of his training he undertook extensive tours to France, Switzerland, Italy and England. 1658 he returned to Aurich to his brother Count Enno Ludwig the yard. After his sudden death in March 1660 Edzard Ferdinand demanded a division of the rule along with his brother Georg Christian, but could not prevail. Also, its call for a withdrawal of their inheritance was in space. On January 18, 1661, they came to an agreement between the brothers. Edzard Ferdinand renounced for a yearly appanage to a share in the government and retired with a small entourage to the north, where he resided as Earl of the North.

Family

On July 22, 1665 he married Anna Dorothea von Criechingen and chain plates, with whom he had two sons.

The sudden death of Georg Christian in early June 1665, revived the issue of government power again. As Christine Charlotte of Württemberg widow was pregnant, Edzard Ferdinand took over the interim government until the birth of the new, future Prince Christian Eberhard.

Edzard Ferdinand himself involved with the Prince 's widow and the responsibility for the task at a regency for the future prince.
