Counterirritant

A counter-irritant is a substance or procedure which results in local irritation, and is used in the fields of medicine, inflammation, or pain of a part of the body to deflect the position of the subject stimulus.

Properties

A counter-irritant (e.g., capsaicin, camphor between three and eleven percent, chloral hydrate, eucalyptus oil, or mercury (II ) chloride ) is used, inter alia, inflammatory diseases, to lure participating in the inflammation -immune cells from the site of inflammation, and thus the Inflammation to reduce the original location. In horses were formerly Cantharide, mercury (II ) iodide and controlled burns used as counter-irritants.
