Countess of Ségur

The Comtesse de Ségur Sophie ( Sophie Countess of Ségur ) ( born August 1, 1799 in St. Petersburg, † February 9, 1874 in Paris), born in Sofia Rostoptschina Fyodorovna (Russian Софья Фёдоровна Ростопчина ), a French writer and daughter of the Russian General Fyodor Vasilyevich Rostopchin and the Minister.

Life

Sophie de Ségur in 1817 moved with her family from Russia to France. 1819 she married the Comte de Ségur Eugène. 1822 bought the Comte Nouettes the castle in Aube ( Basse -Normandie ) and Sophie de Ségur lived there with their children. In 1856 she began to publish novels. 1872 Nouettes sold and moved to Paris.

As a children's author, the Mémoires d'un âne ( "Memories of a donkey " ) were her most successful book. Also famous are their fairy tales ( '' Nouveaux Contes de fées ). Her early work Les Misfortunes of Sophie is popular today.
