County of Rodez

The county of Rodez was a fief within the county of Rouergue in the Aveyron region today; their capital was Rodez.

It was formed when Raymond of Saint- Gilles, Count of Rouergue, set off for a crusade and before Richard, a son of the Viscount of Millau, to the masters of the lower town of Rodez, called le Bourg ( as opposed to the Cité, the Upper Town, the was owned by the Bishop ), and made some castles in the surrounding areas. From this decision fairly quickly, the county Rodez developed.
