Courrières

Courrières is a commune with 10,618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais, near the town of Lens. Here branches off the ship channel Canal de Lens on the channelized Deûle.

The sister city of Courrières is white tower, a small town on the Rhine near Koblenz. The Courrières mining disaster in 1906 called for 1,099 human lives.
