Cow Green Reservoir

The Cow Green Reservoir is a reservoir in England. The border between Cumbria and County Durham is located in the reservoir, which is formed by the River Tees.

The dam was built in 1967-1971 to supply the industry in Teesside with water. The construction of the dam was controversial as environmentalists feared above all to protect the habitat of Viola rupestris ( Teesdale Violet ). During extreme low water levels in the reservoir a previously unknown settlement from the Bronze Age in 1984 exposed in the reservoir.

Almost immediately after the tea leaves the reservoir, it flows over the rapids of the Cauldron Snout.
