Crac

Crac is a Canadian animated short film by Frédéric Back from the year 1981.

Action

Quebec in Winter: A man goes into the forest and down a tree that falls with a loud CRAC to the ground. He transported the tree trunk from his horse and processes it in several stages to a rocking chair. This he gives his girlfriend, who shows up delighted. A short time later, the marriage takes place, which becomes a huge party with dancing and music.

The spring is coming and while the woman knitting in a rocking chair, the man ordered the fields and sow grain that is loaded in the fall in bunches. The woman is expecting a child. The snow covered the landscape again, the child's birth is celebrated. Sitting in the rocking chair the father calms the crying infant. The child grows up and the green rocking chair is repainted in red. On Child 1 Child 2 follows, and finally come to twins. While the largest boy stands on the rocking chair sideways, he observed his mother, who holds the three smaller children in his arms and rocked to sleep. When all three sleep and the mother admonished the boy to rest, enters the on the rocking chair and breaks as a Wippbein by. The father has to grind a new one.

The boy is the rocking chair soon as imaginary railroad, other children used it as a " fishing boat " on the high seas. The rocking chair is cave, horse and race car. When he is taken to the carnival and went for a walk on the ice, there is a collision with other skaters and the back and other parts break down. Once again, the chair is glued and then painted yellow.

The years go by, the children move from the chair and is now the father at the age as a resting place by the stove. When he breaks through the decrepit chair, he throws it angrily out of the house. The house is sold. What remains is the rocking chair in the snow. He goes unnoticed arise even when all around skyscrapers, makes a nuclear power plant for demonstrations and is converted into a museum for modern art. Shortly before the disposal of the chair is discovered by the museum guard. He makes him colorful paint and use it again as a seat in the museum. Soon the chair is discovered by children who now always allowed for two rocking it. The museum closes in the evening, the chair remains in the dark. He begins to rock, and the images of his past come to life again.

Production

Crac was released in 1981 and ran this year, among others at the Festival de Cine de Huesca in Spain. The film has no dialogue.

Awards

Crac won the 1982 Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ".

On the Spanish Festival de Cine de Huesca Crac in 1980 awarded the Premio Danzante and received on the 1982 Ottawa International Animation Festival Grand Prix.
