Crashing the Water Barrier

Crashing the Water Barrier is an American short film by Konstantin Kals from the year 1956.

Action

Donald Campbell is planning in 1955 to set up on Lake Mead a new world speed record on water. Again, he wants to go faster than 200 miles per hour by boat. Another driver had already taken this record attempt, however, was been killed. Campbells joy of speed runs in the family, as his father Malcolm Campbell set a speed record by automobile.

At Lake Mead, various tests are performed on the boat Bluebird, some test runs must be discontinued. Another attempt is successful, however, Campbell must complete record with the rules set out in two trips, so that the record will be recognized. For the return trip, however, it is too dark in this run. The next day the record run has to be canceled because of strong winds have come up and the water surface is too rough. Eventually, however, the perfect day has come and Campbell succeeds the record run: On return journey, he is an average of 216.2 miles per hour fast.

Awards

Crashing the Water Barrier in 1957 " ( a roll of film ) Best Short Film " won an Oscar in the category. It was the last time that this Oscar was awarded as the subdivision a roll of film / two rolls of film was repealed in the following year.
