Cronenberg Protestant Cemetery

The Protestant cemetery on the main street in the district of Wuppertal Cronenberg is one of the 50 cemeteries in the city. The only about 0.53 acre burial site is run by the Lutheran church Cronenberg.

The history of the cemetery goes back to 1783, at the same time founding year of the Cronenberger Evangelical (then called " Lutheran " ) church. The first church building was constructed one year later at the spot where now stands the rectory. The present church building ( called Emmaus Church ) was built only in 1857. The cemetery put the municipality on at its foundation. On the somewhat extended in 1875 cemetery was also the pastor Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Stratmann ( 1780-1855 ), the founder of the church, his final resting place. His tomb near the main entrance has been preserved to this day and includes, among other reliefs of a church, which should underline its commitment to the construction of the church.

The cemetery on the main road is still used today for burials, even if the Cronenberger community has on the nearby Parco cemetery on the road since 1930 in Solingen their own section.
