Cross-sectional study

In the empirical research is called a cross-section (for T. Engl. Cross - sectional data ) or a cross-section ( s ) of the student or cross-sectional design, if an empirical study (eg survey, content analysis ) is carried out once. The result is social "snapshots" of currently valid facts, opinions or behaviors. In the cross-sectional design used random sampling to ensure representativeness.

Examples:

  • A: effect of age at 15 years, all buy eg a building loan contract
  • P: Period Effect: In 2000, all bought for example a 2000 calendar
  • K: cohort effect: The vintage 1989 (1999 10 years old) purchases each year, for example, movie tickets for the movie "1989"

In contrast to the cross-sectional design, a longitudinal study is repeatedly performed.
