Cryptographic Message Syntax

Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS; German Cryptographic Message Syntax ) is a standard from the IETF for secure cryptographic communications.

CMS is the superset of PKCS # 7 (Public -Key Cryptography Standards # 7) which will be based on S / MIME. The version 2 was based on the same standard. As of version 3 is called Cryptographic Message Syntax. CMS is described in the Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1 ).

The architecture of CMS is based on X.509 certificates and encryption.
