Crystal Beach, Ontario

Crystal Beach, Ontario, is a village that belongs to the town of Fort Erie and 3,800 inhabitants. The name of the place was due to the crystal clear water and the sandy beach, which has a length of about three kilometers selected. Crystal Beach is located on the northeastern Lake Erie, opposite Buffalo, USA.

History

From 1888 to 1989, was the amusement park " Crystal Beach Amusement Park " at the lake. When it was opened in 1888, there were 20,000 daily visitors, who arrived even from the opposite Buffalo with steam ships. Most visitors came to celebrate the Memorial Day and Labor Day in the summer. The steamers were baptized in the name of " Canadiana " and " Americana ", summarized every 3000 passengers and commuted to 1956. The park was famous among other things for its roller coaster Crystal Beach Cyclone, which opened in 1927. 1930 amusement park employee was assigned an area on a hill, were built on the smaller houses near the beach, so that they could live near their workplace. The area is now called Crystal Beach Hill and comprises 43 houses, of which one can see the entire beach. As the theme park was closed, the small residential community Crystal Beach Hill developed into a small community. Since 1989 there is a tennis and yacht club on the grounds of the former theme park.

Even today, the Crystal Beach is a resort and tourist attraction for Canadians and Americans as well as tourists from abroad who spend their summer vacations there.
