CSD Municipal

Club Social y Deportivo Municipal is a football club from the capital city of Guatemala, Guatemala City. The club was founded in May 1936 with 25 national championships The champions of Guatemala and is also regarded as the most popular team in the country.

1942 Minicipal won their first championship. The greatest international success was the victory in the CONCACAF Champions Cup against SV Transvaal of Suriname in 1974. 1995 once again made the finals, but this time with Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica held the upper hand.

Stadium

Play their home games from CSD Municipal in the multi-purpose stadium Estadio Mateo Flores, which is named after the local marathon runner Mateo Flores. Established in 1950 under the name of Estadio Olímpico with the Central American and Caribbean Games stadium has 30,000 seats. 1973, 1986 and 2001 were held Juegos Deportivo Centroamericanos, the Central American Games here.

In a qualifying match for the 1998 World Cup in October 1996, due to overcrowding one of the biggest stadium disasters in history occurred. At least 83 people were killed and many more injured.
