Csongrád County

Csongrád [ ʧonɡra ː d] is a county (administrative district ) in southern Hungary. It is bordered by Serbia (Vojvodina ) and Romania as well as the counties Bács -Kiskun, Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok and Békés. It has an area of ​​4263 km ² and (2001) 418 574 inhabitants. The county seat is Szeged, other major cities are Csongrád Szentes Hódmezővásárhely and Mako.

Geography

The area is part of the Great Hungarian Plain, and is traversed by the Tisza River, which flows into the Maros. West of the Theiss there are numerous swamps.
