Szentes

Szentes is a city in southeastern Hungary, in Csongrád.

It is located in the southern part of the Great Hungarian Plain, at the small river Kurca, just before its confluence with the Tisza (Hungarian Tisza ).

Environment

Szentes is located about 50 km northeast of the University of Szeged, the county seat of Csongrád. A few kilometers northwest of the city lies Szentes Csongrád, namesake of the county. About 35 km west of the city runs the M5 motorway, which runs from Budapest to Szeged to Röszke on the border with Serbia.

With a population of 31 082 inhabitants Szentes is the third largest city in the county (after Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely ).

Worth seeing is the town hall, which was completed in 1911 according to the plans and under the supervision of the architect Alois Bohn. The imposing two -wing building dominates with its high mansard roof both the Kossuth Square and the Erszebet Square. The two 135 -meter-long fronts of the building with dormers combines a 37 -meter high corner tower. The main front adorns the made ​​of colored majolica coat of arms of Szentes.
