Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano Lázaro ( born May 1, 1934 in Mexico City) is a Mexican politician. He was governor of the state of Michoacán, head of government of the Distrito Federal de México and founder of the Partido de la Revolución Democrática ( PRD).

Biography

Cárdenas is the son of the former president Lázaro Cárdenas del Río and Amalia Solórzano. Together with the late politician Porfirio Muñoz Ledo, he visited the kindergarten " Brigida Alfaro ". After attending various schools throughout Mexico, he later studied civil engineering at the Escuela Nacional de Ingeniería of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM) to 1957 and formed afterwards in France and Italy continue.

As a member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI ), he was from 1974 to 1980 and senator in connection to 1986 governor of Michoacán. In 1997 he ran for the newly created post of government ( Jefe de Gobierno ) of the Federal District and won the election on 6 July with 47.7 %. In 1999, he sat down to rest. He was succeeded by Rosario Robles, who took 2000 as a presidential candidate. Cárdenas as official oldest member of PRD is now considered the " moral leader".
