Cuba Austin

Cuba Austin (* 1906 in Charleston, West Virginia; † 1961) was an American jazz drummer of the Oldtime Jazz and Swing.

Austin, who began as a tap dancer, is mainly known as a member of " McKinney 's Cotton Pickers ," which he belonged from 1926. Previously, he was already playing in McKinney 's " Synco Jazz Band ". McKinney was before even the drums, but then took over more and more management functions. Occasionally he can be heard on the recordings of the Cotton Pickers as a singer. The dissolution of the Cotton Pickers in 1931, Austin was one of the two successor band, the "Original Cotton Pickers ", which lasted until about 1934. He then moved to Baltimore, where he was a businessman and only occasionally played in the band of pianist Rivers Chambers. Austin also took on with Rex Stewart.

Gene Krupa was one of Austin, who used one of the first hi-hat to his influences.
