Cuby Blizzards

Cuby Blizzards is a Dutch blues band. The band was founded in the 1960s in the province of Drenthe by Harry " Cuby " Eelco Gelling and Muskee.

Band History

Since its inception, the band of several line-up changes and name changes was affected. In addition to the founding members included internationally recognized for its members as Dutch musician Herman Brood ( Herman Brood & His Wild Romance ), Peter de Leeuwe ( Ekseption ), Cesar Zuiderwijk ( Golden Earring), Herman van Boeyen ( Vitesse ).

Cuby & Blizzards made ​​tours with Eddie Boyd, Alexis Korner and Van Morrison, which were partially published as an album. In addition to these musicians Muskee also had contacts with John Mayall the "Father of English blues."

In the time of the international success the band in the Netherlands got the coveted " Edison Award" for the LP Desolation.

After Muskee and Gelling mid-1970s had established a new, but not very successful project "Red, White & Blue Band", they named the band back into Cuby & Blizzards.

After the departure of Gelling to Golden Earring in 1977 Muskee changed to the band name to " Harry Muskee band Muskee gear" and later in " Muskee ".

In the 1990s there was again a band with the name " Cuby & Blizzards ".

In 2004, the band did a theater tour of the Blue Idol John Lee Hooker. Muskee had come especially about the album " John Lee Hooker, Concert At Newport " to the blues.

Besides being a musician, Muskee was with " RTV Drenthe " a regional radio station busy. For the transmitter, he made a study trip "on the trail of the Blues" in the United States.

Eelco Gelling was after the Golden Earring in various bands employed (including the " Freelance Band", the " Muskee pass" and the "Blues Connection" ). He has since founded his own band the " Eelco Gelling Band".

In October 2006, Cuby & Blizzards gave a jubilee concert on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, which was also recorded for Dutch television.

Harry Muskee died on 26 September 2011.
