History

The six-story " skyscraper " was built only a few years after the opening of the Culver Studios and opened in 1924. The brick building, then still later times called Hotel Hunt and Culver City Hotel, housed Harry Culvers offices and stars such as Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Buster Keaton and Ronald Reagan. As The Wizard of Oz was filmed, lived a large part of the 124 Munchkin actors in the hotel. Judy Garland later spread rumors that the diminutive actor had celebrated in orgies and their property almost demolished, but this was later denied.

The hotel was a few years John Wayne; later it was donated to the YMCA and degenerated. In 1997, there was a new buyer and was renovated. In the same year a meeting of the then still living Munchkin actor took place in Culver Hotel. The hotel was also on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. From 2007 there was a further renovation that was completed in 2012.

The Culver Hotel served several times as a film set, so for various thick-and- Goofy movies, The Last Action Hero and the television series Party of Five.
