Cumberland Islands (Queensland)

The group of the Cumberland Islands is located in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Mackay in Queensland, Australia.

Discovery

Cumberland Islands were these islands at that time named by James Cook in 1770 when he sailed through the so named from him Whitsunday Passage. The name for the Cumberland Island group goes back to the Duke of Cumberland, who supported his former journey. The Whitsunday Iceland ( Whitsunday Island ) named Cook on June 3, 1770 on a Pentecost Sunday.

Island and island groups

The Cumberland Islands are the island groups: Whitsundays Islands Group, Lindeman Islands Group, Anchor Islands and Sir James Smith Islands. Today, the northern islands of Shute Harbour from be seen, although usually counted to the Whitsunday Islands and the Molle Islands. Officially, however, they are still the Cumberland Islands attributed and labeled as such.

Next includes the islands of Iceland Brampton, Carlisle, Scawfell, Goldsmith, Cockermouth, Keswick and St Bees to the Cumberland Islands.

On the Brampton Iceland, Carlisle, Scawfell, Goldsmith, Cockermouth, Keswick and St Bees are national parks. Camping is possible to Goldsmith, Carlisle, Cockermouth, Scawfell and St Bees.
