Curmuca Barb
Hypselobarbus curmuca, Eng. Curmuca Carp, Hindi Koracha, Kooral, കൂരല് or ചുണ്ടന് is a great Karpfenfischart, which is endemic only in India.
Description
Hypselobarbus curmuca has also been described under the synonyms curmuca Barbus Barbus guentheri, Cyprinus curmuca, Gobio canarensis, Gobio curmuca, Gonoproktopterus curmuca or Puntius curmuca. The fish have a copper- brown color and the fins are partly reddish. The caudal fin has characteristic orange-red and black stripes. It can reach up to 120 centimeters in length. This specimen weighed about 20 kilograms and was trapped in a body of water in the Western Ghats.
Distribution and habitat
The species most of his time in rivers of the mountains on, there you will find Hypselobarbus curmuca in deep pools or shaded water sections. Populations are in the Godavari, Cauvery, Krishna River and Periyar Lake.
Way of life
Hypselobarbus curmuca lives and reproduces in mountain rivers continued, but wanders in search of food in reservoirs. They feed on algae and insect larvae. Spawning areas are smaller creeks or streams with sandy and krautbewachsenem underground.
Use
The Curmuca carp is used as a food fish and is experimentally maintained in aquaculture.
