Currie

Currie is a suburb of Edinburgh, which is located ten kilometers southwest of the center of the city. The village belongs to the administration area of the city of Edinburgh. In the northeast of the city of Juniper Green is limited, also a suburb of Edinburgh.

History

There is no generally accepted theory for the origin of the name Currie. One suspects it might come from the Gaelic, but there are also those who claim that it comes from the Breton or Anglo-Saxon. Since there are two neighboring towns, deriving their name from the Breton and also from the Gaelic, both roots for Currie are possible.

The earliest evidence of settlement of the area by Currie is located in the Bronze Age. Archaeologists found a razor, which is approximately 3,800 years old. For the Middle Ages and early modern times there are a few written documents that prove the existence of curries. One of the earliest dates from the year 1249 when Robert of Kildeleith Chancellor of Scotland was. Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, gave Riccarton 1315 the place as a wedding gift. In 1392 the country went over to the family of Bishop Wardlaw. In the early 17th century, Ludwig Craig received the land until it was transferred in 1818 to the line of the Gibson - Craigs.

For more than a thousand years are in the area of Currie, a Christian center. 1018 settled the Erzdiakone of Lothian to Currie.
