Curt Lowens

Curt Lowen ( born November 17, 1925 in Olsztyn, Prussia, Germany as Kurt Löwenstein ) is a German actor and a survivor of the Holocaust. Since 1960, he starred in over 100 films.

Life

Lowen was born into a Jewish family in the East Prussian city of Olsztyn (now Olsztyn, Poland). His father was a respected lawyer, but his career interrupted by the loss of customers due to the rise of the "Third Reich" one. The family moved in 1936 into a Jewish community in Berlin, but decided to leave Germany later in the direction of the United States. While they waited in Rotterdam on their departure, the Germans raided Holland. In June 1943, they were first brought to Westerbork and from there to Auschwitz. There they were released surprisingly again. After his release, he went into hiding and was under the false name Ben Joosten an active member of the Resistance. In 1947 he immigrated with his father and stepmother in the United States, where he became an actor. Ironically, he played in the following years very often German soldiers.
