Cusco Quechua ( Quechua: Qusqu Runasimi or Qusqu Qhichwa ) is spoken especially in the Peruvian department of Cusco, including Cusco Quechua variety, which belongs to the Quechua dialect group Qusqu - Qullaw.

According to SIL International, the Cusco Quechua of 1.5 million people, including 300,000 to 500,000 monolinguals, in the region of Cusco, in the eastern Apurimac, approximately half of Puno and in the province of Caylloma in the Arequipa region is spoken.

The Cusco Quechua enjoys in many circles the highest reputation among all Quechua varieties, which is due to the history of the city of Cusco as Inca capital. The Academia Mayor de la Lengua Quechua ( AMLQ ) in Cusco propagated this dialect as written language standard, with the Spanish model, the five vowels a, e, i, o, u to use are ( in their states, for example Qosqo Qheswa ). However, an official standard for the Cusco Quechua Southern Quechua, which only the three vowels a, i, u used for ancestral Quechua words.

The Cusco Quechua stands out not strong within the regional variant Qusqu - Qullaw. There are some peculiarities in the vocabulary that distinguishes it from its sister dialects (eg unu instead yaku for " water" or Ukuku instead ukumari for "bear " ) and a few in the grammar (eg the suffix- rqan instead - Rqa for the third person simple past).
