Cycloalkene

Cycloalkenes are alkenes whose molecules are annular. They possess as all alkenes, at least one double bond between two carbon atoms of the molecule.

Production

Cycloalkenes are usually prepared by elimination reactions, eg from cycloalkanols by the acid-catalyzed elimination of water. Ring-closing metathesis of α, ω - dialkenes also provides cycloalkenes.

Reactions

As with all alkenes addition reactions can also be carried out easily at the double bond of cycloalkenes.

The polymerization of cycloalkenes is usually a metathesis, specifically a ring-opening metathesis, ahead. Only then is the actual polymerization.
