Cyril Bowles

Cyril Johnston William Bowles (* May 9, 1916, † 14 September 1999) was from 1969 to 1987, the fourth Bishop of Derby.

He studied at Cambridge University, and was ordained in 1949. He was assistant priest in the parish of Barking. Subsequently, he was chaplain at the theological college Ridley Hall, Cambridge where he became dean eventually. He was archdeacon before 1969, he was appointed bishop. As Bishop of Derby from 1973 to 1987 he had a seat in the House of Lords.
