Cyttus

Cyttus traversi

Cyttus is a genus of Peter Fishy ( Zeiformes ). It comes in the temperate seas of the Southern Hemisphere, in South Africa, South Australia and New Zealand at depths of 10 to 800 meters.

Features

The fish have the typical hochrückige and laterally flattened shape of their relatives. They are 40-54 inches long. The first dorsal fin has eight to ten hard jets, the second 28 to 36 soft rays. In contrast to Peter Fishing ( Zeidae ), for which it was expected earlier, they have no enlarged scales at the base of the dorsal and anal fin and along the lateral line organ.

System

The genus is the only one of Cyttidae family and the subordination Cyttoidei. There are three types:

  • Cyttus australis ( Richardson, 1843)
  • Cyttus novaezealandiae ( Hutton, 1872)
  • Cyttus traversi Hutton, 1872
