Czechoslovak Cup

The Czechoslovak Football Cup (Czech: Československý Pohár ) was a football cup competition for Czechoslovak club teams. It was organized by 1960/61, bis 1992/93 year by the Czechoslovak Football Association.

Precursor

The clubs of Central Bohemia, especially the Prague teams a long time could prevent the emergence of a national cup competition, as their own Cup (Czech: Středočeský Pohár, see: Czech Cup ) would thus have lost their importance. In the season 1938/39, succeeded the former Czechoslovak Football Association but then, for the first time to organize a national cup competition. The first round was played but the Munich agreement meant that the competition was not finished playing. In 1951, a Czechoslovak Cup contest was organized. On these, however, only unterklassige teams participated, but not first division. From the quarter- finals, he served as a qualification to the 1st league. Also in 1952 a trophy was played, the other features had: At the final round only an association of an industry was allowed to participate, according to which the clubs were organized at that time. In recent rounds, the teams were reinforced with other players from other teams the same economic sector. Both the competition in 1951 and the 1952 are therefore not official.

Mode

1960/61, the competition was divided into a Czech and a Slovak part, without these were separate cup competitions. The two winners met each other in a final. Of 1961 / 62-1968 / 69 Cup was nationwide in a competition held. Until the final simple knockout rounds have been played, the finale was held in return game. This did not apply in 1964 and 1965, and the final was played in only one game. From 1969 /70 Czechoslovak Cup consisted only of the meeting of the Czech Cup winner with the Slovak Cup winner. This took place until 1976 in return game since 1977, the winner was determined in a single encounter. From 1977 to 1984 this was alternately in the capitals of Prague and Bratislava place from 1985-1993 in smaller cities and stadiums in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Cup surprises

The biggest sensation occurred in the last game in 1992 /93. The then second division side FC Kosice 1 beat the freshly crowned champions Sparta Prague Czechoslovak 5-1. In 1968/69 reached the then second division VCHZ Pardubice the final, where he only narrowly lost with 1:1 and 0:1 Dukla Prague. This was also the only year in which two Czech teams faced each other in the final.
