History

Founding and achievements

1958 Pappy Dailey founded his new label specially after he had separated from his business partner Don Pierce. Dailey and Pierce had built up in previous years Starday Records and discovered stars like George Jones. D Records was mainly intended for the country and rockabilly market, participated in the early years of the label numerous rockabilly artists on their records for D. Some of these early musicians were Utah Carl, Jimmy and Johnny, Eddie Bond, "Country" Johnny Mathis, JP Richardson, Dee and Patty, Ray Campi, Merle Kilgore, Glenn Barber, Tibby Edwards, Hardrock Gunter and Link Davis. The first release (D 1000) was Can not Play Hookey / My Steady Dream by Tommy Wood on 26 May 1958.

With some artists D Records Hiterfolge was able to record, such as with JP Richardson's Chantilly Lace, Claude Gray Family Bible, Willie Nelson's Night Life and The Party's Over Clay or Blakers The Only Thing I Have Left.

End and a new beginning

In 1975, the label was closed shortly after the publication of the first plates of George Straits band Ace in the Hole, because Dailey had retired and his sons with the management of their publishing company " Glad Music" had enough to do.

2002 Daileys grandson Wes Dailey tried also in the music business and revived the label of his grandfather again. With artists like Jason Allen, Jamie Richards and Zona Jones D Records released again with moderate success. Then as now the seat of the label is located in Houston, Texas.
