Dagö

Dago is an ethno - folk band from Tallinn, Estonia.

History and Significance

The band was founded in 1998 by Lauri Saatpalu, Peeter Rebane and Tiit Kikas. In 2000, the first album was titled Dagö produced ( Hyper Records label ). For this album, the group Toomas Rull (drums) and Raul Vaigla received in Estonia the prize for the best ethno - folk album of the year 2000. ( Bass) completed the band.

2001 Dagö won the main prize of Lühima öö improvisatsioonifestival ( Mitsommernachts Improvisation Festival) in Pärnu and performed as the opening act for Jethro Tull on in Tallinn. 2002 leaves the founding member Tiit Kikas the group. Producer and musician Kristo Kotkas is a new member of the band, but remains in the background and does not occur at concerts. In the same year Dagö published the second album Toiduklubi ( Food Club ). Taavi Kerikmäe (keyboards) was a new band member.

2003 went Dagö with Ultima Thule on tour and produced the third album Hiired Tuules (mice in the wind ). For this album the band in Estonia in 2003 was awarded the prize for the best ethno - folk album of the year. The drummer Petteri Hasa complemented the band. 2004 Dagö toured with the band Singer Vinger by Estonia and was awarded the prize for the best ethno - folk band of the year in Estonia. 2006 was the fourth album Joonistatud mees was published ( The picture-perfect man). In 2008, the album was released Möödakarvapai.

In the fall of 2008, the band announced on their website that there would be a long pause. In an interview with the radio station Raadio Uuno this break became clear as the final separation. The last concert of the band took place in November 2008.

Due to its sophisticated texts, the band is very popular with students and intellectuals.
