Dakota, Missouri Valley and Western Railroad

The Dakota, Missouri Valley and Western Railroad ( DMVW ) is an American regional railroad company in the Midwestern United States. The company is based in Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Company operates an around 890 km rail network in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, which due to the condition with a maximum speed of 16 km / h ( 10 mph ) can be busy. Connections exist to route network of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Flaxton, Max and Hankinson. The fleet consists of 17 locomotives of the series EMD GP 20, GP 35, GP 35R and GP 40-2 with whom 22,000 carloads annually transported. Most important transport goods are cereals and other agricultural products.

The railway company was founded in 1990 by Larry Wood and some local investors. The goal was the acquisition of the tendered by the Soo Line Railroad routes from Washburn (North Dakota) to the south on Bismarck until after Oakes and Flaxton in the northern North Dakota by Whitetail (Montana). The company was awarded the contract and entered into a valid lease from 20 years to operate the routes. In 2006 the contract was extended until 2026. In the years following the takeover of the operation was carried out on other routes. So today is also the former SOO routes from Washburn after Max and Oakes by Hankinson, the former Northern Pacific Railroad route McKenzie - Linton and the former Great Northern route Geneso (North Dakota ) - Aberdeen (South Dakota) operated.
