Dallach Sunrise

The Dallach D2 " Sunrise" (also Sunrise II ) is an ultralight aircraft that was designed by Wolfgang Dallach.

History

After the end of his aerobatic career in 1982, Wolfgang Dallach devoted to the development of ultra -light aircraft. His first work was the low-wing D2 Sunrise, which was made 1984-1991 in his company in the Swabian Straßdorf. As of 1989, it was replaced by the double -decker Sunwheel and from the spring of 1993 by the two-seater with retractable landing gear and partially equipped with tail wheel Fascination.

Construction

The D2 Sunrise is a two-seat low-wing monoplane with a steel tube fuselage and an open cockpit, the Klemm L25 is similar by design. The design changed during the production period. So the prototype fuselage in the rear part had a triangular cross-section, whereas the later series models have a box fuselage. The wings of the prototype had wooden main spars and the front wing area was planked up to the main spar with plywood. In the series, the main spar made of carbon fiber composite material and was firmly glued to the CFRP wing leading edge. After the first production aircraft, the airfoil ( Wortmann FX 63-137 ) was modified. It was a straight bottom to allow a slightly higher airspeed.

Also, the modified Visa engine was revised again. The first engines had a dry sump lubrication. They were installed upside down, the oil pan was removed and the resulting hole with an aluminum plate. This cover had leakage problems. Therefore, the engine has now been installed so that the oil pan was down and the original wet sump lubrication remained. However, since the exhaust port were inclined forward - above, on each cylinder a 180 ° bend was necessary led to the muffler under the hull of the depending on a flex hose. This design was nicknamed " antlers ". The engine cowling, the upper rear panel and the supporting parts of the wings were constructed of reinforced plastic. The tail surfaces were not profiled and consisted of horse-drawn steel tube frame with foam filling. The horizontal tail surfaces can be folded for transport to above, without the control connections must be disconnected. When engine was a modified 40 hp two-cylinder from the Citroen Visa or similar engines up to 70 hp. With the standard tank with 30 liters could be up to 5 h stay in the air.
