Dalur

Dalur [ dɛalʊɹ ] (Danish: Dal, literally: valley ) is a place of the Faroe Islands, the southernmost of the island Sandoy.

Dalur located in the south Sandoys on the east coast in a large valley ( hence the name) and has a relatively large commons. Towards the south, a narrow road leading to the southern tip Sandoys, from where you can reach the bird cliffs Skorin walk. Here to keep large flocks of puffins during the breeding season. This is conducive to the growth of plants, which is why the meat of the sheep very well fail.

Dalur is an old village which was mentioned in 1404 for the first time, with old documents can be seen that it was also called Varmadalur ( " warm valley "). It is unlikely to be as old as the other two villages - Skálavík and Húsavík on the east side of the island. The village is relatively isolated, especially since there is a road connection only since 1963. The road runs along steep mountain slopes along, so the slipping of stone and earth is on the road are not uncommon. Now there are plans for a road tunnel through the mountains between Húsavík and Dalur.

The Church of Dalur was built in 1957 and was the first church in the village.
