Damaris (singer)

Damaris Mallma Porras ( born January 26, 1986 in Huancayo), is a Peruvian folk singer. She is a representative of contemporary Andean music, which consists of a mix of traditional Indian language Quechua and modern pop music.

Biography

Damaris was born on January 26, 1986 in Huancayo. She is the daughter of singer Victoria de Ayacucho, better known as Saywa. She began her music career in 1993 at the age of 7 in the Music Workshop " Yawar " and then studied singing, music, theater and dance in Peru. Her debut as a singer she had in 1994 at various institutions, such as the Teatro Segura in Lima, Miraflores amphitheater and the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos. Damaris was also involved in Peruvian groups, such as Yawar, Saywa, Tupay and the Andean Youth Choir with 20 musicians from 5 different Andean countries. In 2008, she won the Folk Song Festival of Viña del Mar. At the Latin Grammy Awards 2008 she was nominated for her album Mil Caminos in the category "Best Folk Album ".
