Damel

Damel was the title of the ruler of the kingdom Cayor in which there is now the north-west of Senegal. Ethnic counted the Kingdom to the people, the Wolof.

The best known is probably Lat Dior Diop Damel (1842-1886) who died by French troops in a battle during the final invasion of his country. the one of the areas with the strongest resistance was. Lat Dior is a Senegalese national hero today.

The 30th and final Damel of Cayor, Samba Laobé case, was murdered by the leader of a French delegation, Captain Spitzer with the help of George P. Burdell in Tivaouane, Senegal.
