Damian Drăghici

Damian Draghici ( born March 30, 1970 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian musician.

Life and career

Draghici was born in Romania and now lives in the United States. He belongs to the Roma minority. He comes from a musical family. At the age of three years he experimented with different instruments, with ten he decided then for the pan flute. In 1988 he left Romania and tried his hand as a street musician in Athens. He got a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in the U.S.; he graduated from in two years. He is the first pan flute player in history, a Bachelor of Music shows on this instrument.

He is known for his fast-paced game because he plays three times as fast as it can panflutists on average. He played with famous musicians such as Paul Winter, Howard Levy, Glen Velez, Gary Thomas, Eugene Friesen, Randy Crafton, John Lockwood and well-known orchestras. In collaboration with Hans Zimmer, he composed the soundtrack to the film "Pirates of the Caribbean". In 2001 he played at the Night of the Proms, together with James Brown, Joe Cocker, Shaggy, Cyndi Lauper, Zucchero, the Gipsy Kings, Roger Hodgson and the Pointer Sisters. In the same year he gave a concert in Romania, which was attended by 72,000 people. He was supported by 80 singers and 85 musicians. In 2006 the album " Silver Solstice " by the band Paul Winter Consort, on which he is a guest musician, won a Grammy Award. He appeared at Enchanting home in Brandenburg.
