Dan Ashbel

Dan Ashbel ( * 1949 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli diplomat and former ambassador to Vienna.

Life

Dan Ashbel studied Geography and English Literature and received his Master degree in political science with a focus on Middle East at the University of Haifa. In 1975, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the years 1978 to 1983 Ashbel worked as press and cultural attaché in Bonn and was from 1989 for three years press attaché at the Israeli embassy in London, where he previously worked from 1986 to 1989 as Counsellor at the Israeli Embassy in Austria.

From 1989 to 1992 he was counselor and spokesman at the Israeli embassy in London. Following during 1994 to 1996 he was instructor in Israel College for National Security. In addition, Ashbel worked from 1997 to 2000 in the Office of the Consul General in Philadelphia. From March 2005 to October 2009, he lived as an Israeli ambassador in Vienna. His successor in that office is Aviv Shir-On. From July 2006 to 2009 Ashbel was also accredited in Slovenia.

Dan Ashbel is married and father of three children.

Positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The diplomat had last been Head of the Department of European multilateral institutions and Israeli coordinator for the Euro - Meditterane Partnership ( Euromed ) the Israeli foreign ministry before his appointment as ambassador to Vienna.

He also was director of the Office of the Director of the Institute for Policy Research, Deputy Press Secretary, responsible for the Israeli program of cooperation with the Central Asian States and Director of the Training Department and the European II Department.
