Dancing Barefoot

Dancing Barefoot is a rock song written by Patti Smith and Ivan Kral and was released as the second single from the album Wave of the Patti Smith Group in 1979. According to the record cover the song Jeanne Hebuterne was dedicated to women like, the lover of Amedeo Modigliani.

Background

The album Wave came at a time when Patti Smith guitarist of the band MC5, Fred Sonic Smith met. The first song of the album, she wrote Frederick obvious to her future husband. Dancing Barefoot describes poetically their feelings and secrets of mutual human attraction ( Here I go, and I do not know why I turn so incessantly, until I get my sense of gravity ... lose ).

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine selected the song at number 323 on "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ".

Cover versions

The song has been covered by many artists, including The Feelies, The Mission and the Simple Minds. The pop group Shakespears Sister released a cover version in 2011 on their album Cosmic Dancer. In 1989, U2 took the song as a B- side of the single When Love Comes to Town. The song also appeared on the limited edition of the compilation The Best of 1980-1990 and on the soundtrack of the film Alone Zweisam Dreisamstadion.
