History

Danfoss was founded in 1933 by refrigeration engineer Mads Clausen as " Dansk Køleautomatik -og apparatus factory" ( Danish cooling automatic and apparatus factory ). The first product he built under license expansion valves for refrigeration systems. Since 1946, the company leads the current name Danfoss; it is composed of the word Danmark (Denmark) and the verb fosse ( flow ).

Mads Clausen Woman Bitten Clausen supported her husband in the management and was after his death 1966-1971 chairman and vice chairman until 1988; Jørgen Mads Clausen her son was now Chief Executive Officer (CEO) until 2008.

The most famous product of Danfoss, the invention Clausen from the 1950s, the thermostatic radiator valve. However, he was so ahead of his time. The demand was very low. It was not until the energy crisis of the early 1970s, the valve was a success.

1968 Danfoss was the first production manufacturer of inverter. The Danfoss Drives sold under the trademark VLT devices allow speed control of three phase machines. The use of this technology provides a great potential for energy savings. The headquarters of Danfoss Drives is Gråsten (Denmark ), where devices are manufactured to approximately 100 kW. Inverters of higher power (up to 1.4 MW ) will be built in Rockford (USA).

Danfoss has its product range since 2003 greatly expanded through the acquisition of other companies, for example, with the inclusion of several companies operating in the field of thermal engineering companies.

Danfoss is now the " Mads Clausen Foundation and requests ." The headquarters of Germany Danfoss sales company located in Offenbach am Main in Hesse.

Funded by the Danfoss Foundation Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern was established in 1999 in Sønderborg. Since 2007, the institute is located in the newly built campus Alsion and offers the most modern facilities of the Faculty of Engineering of the University.

In November 2010, the financial compressor program was sold to Aurelius AG, a holding company. This jobs at the production locations in Flensburg and the Slovenian Črnomelj were massively reduced.
