Daniel C. Verplanck

Daniel Crommelin Verplanck (* March 19, 1762 in New York City; † March 29, 1834 near Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York ) was an American politician. He was taught by private tutors and then graduated in 1788 from Columbia College (later Columbia University) in New York City. Verplanck studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in New York City in 1789. In addition, he engaged in banking.

Verplanck was chosen as a Democratic -Republican to the 8th U.S. Congress, there to fill the vacancy, created by the death of Isaac Bloom. He was re- elected to the 9th and the 10th U.S. Congress, where he served 17 October 1803 to 3 March 1809. Verplanck decided in 1808 not to seek re-election to compete and returned to his legal practice. Then he held 1828-1830 the office of a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Dutchess County. He died in 1834 in his home, "Mount Gulian ", near Fishkill and was then buried in the Trinity Church Cemetery, Fishkill.

Daniel Verplanck 's son, Crommelin Verplanck Gulian, was also a U.S. Rep. from New York.
