Daniel M. Popper

Daniel Magnes Popper ( born August 17, 1913 in Oakland ( California ); † 9 September 1999) was an American astronomer.

Popper studied at the University of California, Berkeley where he received his doctorate in 1938 with a supervised by Arthur B. Wyse work for spectropolarimetry of Nova Lacertae 1936. According to different intermediate stations, he went in 1947 to the University of California, Los Angeles, whose astronomy program he developed considerably and he served until his retirement in 1978.

Popper's works focus on different areas of astrophysics of the stars. Over many years and with great care he determined the orbits of double stars, based on the determination of important properties such as mass star.

It was in 1984 awarded the Karl Schwarzschild Medal.
