Daniel Santos (Boxer)

Daniel Santos ( born October 10, 1975 in San Juan, Puerto Rico ) is a retired Puerto Rican boxer. Santos was silver medalist at the Pan American Games 1995 and bronze medalist of the Olympic Games 1996. As a professional, he was world champion of the WBO welterweight ( -67 kg ) and in the Light Middleweight ( -69.9 kg ).

Career

Amateur

In the youth level ( U19) Santos was bronze medalist of the World Championships in 1990 and 1992, respectively in the light welterweight ( -63.5 kg ).

In 1993, Santos at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Ponce, but resigned in the first fight against the eventual champions Héctor Vinent, Cuba ( 18:5 ), from. Santos defended his title against Giovanni Parisi, Italy ( KO 4 ) and Neil Sinclair, Northern Ireland (KO 2 ). Another title defense against Antonio Margarito, Mexico, was stopped in the first round by the ring doctor, as had opened after a collision a cut over the right eye Margaritos.

2002 Santos climbed to the light middleweight and won the vacant WBO world title with a TKO victory in the 11th round of Luis Ramon Campas, Mexico. A defense of the title he was no longer possible: On November 14, 2009 Santos lost on points ( 117:109, 117:109, 116:110 ) against Yuri Foreman, Israel, and finished after his career after 38 fights with 32 wins (23 KO), 4 losses ( 1 KO), 1 draw.
