Daniel Swarovski

Daniel Swarovski ( born October 24, 1862 in George Thal, Bohemia; † 23 January 1956 in Wattens, Tyrol) was an Austrian glass cutter Bohemian origin and founder of the company Swarovski, which became the world leader in cut crystal glass.

Biography

Swarovski won on the "First Electrical Exhibition" in Vienna in 1883 findings, with whom he developed an electrically driven machine for grinding crystal glass. He emigrated in 1895 from Wattens in the Tyrol, as he found there by the water power of the Alps enough energy and in the past on Wattenbach " cloth and Lodenfabrik Rhomberg " room for its new glass-cutting. In the early days, called the newly founded company because of its originating from Paris business partner " A. Kosmann, Daniel Swarovski & Co ", but was later renamed after a plant expansion at Swarovski.

Daniel Swarovski married a Weis. From this relationship, the three sons Fritz, Alfred and Willi come. In cooperation with the Wattener physician Dr. Karl Steiner, Daniel Swarovski was involved as a council of Wattens instrumental in establishing a modern drinking water supply of the town of Wattens. The construction of company housing for employees in the Weis road and in the Swarovski road, the foundations were laid for a settlement program that II (son of Fritz) was continued extensively by his grandson Daniel Swarovski.

The Swarovski family were avowed Nazis. Daniel Swarovski also came before the connection to Nazi Germany in the then illegal NSDAP (member number 6.1812 million ).

Daniel Swarovski I had received the following awards.

  • Knight of the Order of St. Gregory
  • Knight of the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria
  • Winner of the Golden Honorary Ring of the Economic Chamber of Tyrol
  • Owner of the Julius -Raab - medal
  • Honorary member of the Leopold -Franzens- University of Innsbruck

Daniel Swarovski was also an honorary member of numerous clubs and honorary citizen of the community (now municipality ) Wattens on November 2, 1928.
