Danilo Alvim

Danilo Alvim Faria ( born March 12, 1920 in Rio de Janeiro, † May 16, 1996 ibid ), often just called Danilo, was a Brazilian football player. He was a member of the Brazilian national team at the World Cup 1950 in Brazil. He was born in Rio de Janeiro and began his career at América Football Club Rio de Janeiro. He then worked at Vasco da Gama and Botafogo.

For the Brazilian national team, he played 24 times and scored two goals. He won the Copa América in 1949 and stood in the playoff for the world championship 1950. Though Brazil had played a very strong tournament, in Maracanastadion had home advantage and only a draw needed, you lost against Uruguay, and was only vice-champion. This game is considered as a tragedy in Brazil and is also known as Maracanaço.
