Danny Thomas
Danny Thomas, Amos Alphonsus actually Muzyad Yaqoob, ( born January 6, 1912 in Deerfield, Michigan; † 6 February 1991) was an American film and television actor and comedian.
Life
Amos Alphonsus Muzyad Yaqoob, was born as the son of Charles and Margaret Jacobs in Deerfield, Michigan. He was of Lebanese descent. He first appeared under his name anglifiziertem Amos Jacobs, and later under the pseudonym Danny Thomas. This name was made up of the names of his two brothers.
He played The Jazz Singer ( 1952), a remake of the original from 1927. 1951 he played on the side of the songwriter Gus Kahn Doris Day in the film I'll See You in My Dreams (German In all my dreams are you ).
After the first in the Season After Make Room for Daddy and later as Danny Thomas Show -known show, he was a well-known television producer. He worked on many popular shows, such as The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show, and The Mod Squad. Thomas also produced two series for Walter Brennan: The Tycoon and The Guns of Will Sonnett, both in the 1960s aired by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC).
Known as a great philanthropist, Thomas founded the 1962 St. Jew Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This hospital treated thousands of cancer sick children. 1996 were two of the researchers there the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their research on the immune system of children.
Danny Thomas was a member of the Association of Masonic and very active with the Shriners since 15 March 1984.
Danny Thomas died on February 6, 1991 to a pneumothorax at the age of 79 years. He had a few days earlier completed a promotional film for the St. Jew Children's Research Hospital. Danny Thomas and his wife (died 2000) are in a crypt in a mausoleum in St. Jew 's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. He was posthumously honored in 2004 with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
His children are also artists. The most famous is his daughter Marlo Thomas, who is married to Phil Donahue. His son, Tony Thomas is a television producer, and another daughter, Terre Thomas, is also an actress.
