Dante 01 is a French science- fiction thriller from director Marc Caro from the year 2008. It is his first film without the collaboration with Jean- Pierre Jeunet. The film had a budget of eight million U.S. dollars.

Action

Scene of action is the space station, Dante 01, a psychiatric prison and experiment station for six heavy criminal, two guards (Cer and Beru ), two physicians ( Persephone and the beginning of the film, newly arriving Elisa ) and the station manager Charon. Although the inmates are highly dangerous to the prisoner César has established itself as a leader, what certain rules guaranteed in coexistence.

The situation changes when Elisa comes as a new crew member to the crew. Do not try the prisoners how to cure Persephone by proven psychological methods of treatment, but used ruthlessly experimental nanotechnology, which caused great pain and its outcome is uncertain.

An additional uncertainty factor of encounters " unknown" to the prisoners. He wears a tattoo of Saint George on the shoulder, is plagued by painful visions and initially seems unable to speak.

But at least he preserved several of his fellow prisoners before the nanomachines and from certain death, Persephone begins to realize that she has here to do with more than just a madman.

The situation starts running out of control, as César orders to assassinate the unknowns and the Prisoner Attila gets under his control over the computer system and the station programmed to crash. There is little time to prevent the crash on the planet.

Given the new situation staff and inmates are forced to cooperate. César agrees to take the dangerous path for manual control on himself to carry the station back into a stable orbit, however, is on the way to. Elisa can stun gas to flow into the cells and wants to save himself alone with the Notshuttle instead to stabilize the entire space station. It is held up by the prisoner Lazarus, but they can persuade to elope. The shuttle crashes, however.

The stranger goes in a space suit in outer space between the station and the inhospitable planet Dante and gives his own existence in an eruption of energy out. The Planet Hell Dante is then transformed into a blue planet.

Reviews

Lisa Nesselson by the U.S. industry publication Variety praised the film as " throbbing, disturbing tales " and pointed to Caro's " stunning dark style " towards which the director had already been indicated in Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, along with Jean -Pierre Jeunet. Leading actor Lambert Wilson would provide a dedicated, almost wordless presentation and was " fabulous muscular and expressive ." Less positive verdict of the Swiss daily Le Temps about the movie. Dante 01 was staged " without talent," WOULD " lumpy, pretentious and childish. " Caro's first directorial work since the age of twelve disponer about " amazingly stupid " Dialogues, " ponderous symbolism ," no sense of humor and would act much longer than two hours. Similar assessment Eberhard von Elterlein (The World ) in a short critique at the heavily cut DVD release of the film: "A symbol geschwängertes sci-fi tale with " Alien "look and " 2001 " attitude of Marc Caro ," which " only broody quoted by the film and intellectual history - with gaps big as black holes ".
