Danube–Tisa–Danube Canal

The Danube - Tisza -Danube Canal System (Channel DTD) (Serbian: Kanal Dunav - Tisa - Dunav / Канал Дунав - Тиса - Дунав ) is a system of canals and ditches in the northern Serbian lowlands of Vojvodina, Serbia), between the Serbian Danube in west and the lower reaches of the Tisza in the center and the Danube at the Iron Gate. Thus, the system includes the north of the Danube and Banat regions Backa, which are separated by the River Tisza.

Description

The water structure is used for flood protection, the swamp drainage, domestic water supply, sanitation, shipping and also the sports and tourism.

The duct system has a catchment area of ​​approximately 12,700 km ². The total length of the established channels is 929 km, including new and old canals and rivers that have been fully or partially reconstructed and integrated into the canal system. The main channel network includes 51 buildings, of which 24 Sagittarius, 16 locks, 5 security gates, 6 pumping stations. Furthermore, there are 180 bridges and footbridges. For the transport of goods exist 14 docks and piers.

Along the newer channels of the system 84 bridges (62 road bridges, 19 railway bridges, footbridges 3 ) were built.

One of the most important buildings of the duct system is the Tisza barrage of Novi Bečej, which regulates the water regime in the duct system and is also responsible for the irrigation of 3,000 km ² of arable land.

Great Backa Canal

The today as the Great Backa Canal (formerly Franzens channel or king -Peter - channel) designated channel was the first channel of the current canal system in Vojvodina. The 118 km long canal was opened in 1803 and connects the Danube at Bezdan via Sombor with the Tisza at Bečej.

Small Bacha channel

In the 1870s, the little Backa Canal was built (formerly Franz- Josephs- channel or Alexander - channel). The 69 km long canal connects Mali Stapar on the Grand Canal with Novi Sad on the Danube.

Baja Bezdaner supply channel
