Dany Laferrière

Dany Laferrière ( born April 13, 1953 in Port-au -Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian writer. In 2009 he received the Prix Médicis for his novel L' enigma you back.

Biography

Dany Laferrière was born in 1953 in Haiti's capital Port -au -Prince. He grew up in the small town of Petit Goave - up with his grandmother, he should devote two later novels. Dany Laferrière worked as a journalist until 1976 he emigrated to Montréal. There he worked as a factory worker before he published his first novel. Today the author between Montreal and Miami lives. In January 2010, barely a week after the earthquake in Haiti, he has been on Radio -Canada and the newspaper La selected press the " Personality of the Year 2009". He tells what he has seen and how he experienced the earthquake in his book Tout autour de moi bouge. The book is a tribute to the dignity of the Haitians.

Literary work

1985 his first novel was published under the title Comment faire l' amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer ( German: The art of sleeping with a negro without getting tired). As a result, Laferrière published ten more novels. In his early works, created primarily in Montreal, Dany Laferrière rejects the exiled writers from entertainment to write about his present life in Montréal. Within twenty-five years, he has written about twenty very personal novels that his so-called " American autobiography " put together. The topics that Laferrière also illuminated, now occupy us all: life in an unjust world and the coexistence of different cultures. Dany Laferrière has always fought against, to be filed as an author in a category, such as an " ethnic writer ". He is convinced that he is concerned with world issues that concern all. For his work Dany Laferrière has received numerous awards. On December 12, 2013, he was elected to the Académie française.
