Daphne Akhurst

Daphne Jessie Akhurst, later Daphne Cozens, ( born April 22, 1903 in Sydney, † January 9, 1933 ibid ) was an Australian tennis player.

She won in 1925, 1926, 1928, 1929 and 1930, five times the women's singles at the Australian Tennis Championships, now called the Australian Open. So they came in second behind Margaret Smith with 11 individual victories and Nancye Wynne, who won six times, third place in the all-time best list of the tournament. In 1931 she retired from active tennis.

After her untimely death due to an ectopic pregnancy at the age of only 29 years, the winner's trophy of the women's tournament, the Australian Tennis Championships was named in Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.
