The king daphne ( Daphne blagayana ) is a species of the genus daphne (Daphne) in the family of Seidelbastgewächse.

Features

The king daphne is an evergreen dwarf shrub that forms underground runners and reaches heights of growth to 30 centimeters. The stem is long creeping and ascending. The leaves measure ( 2) 3 to 6 × 1 to 1.5 inches and are dark green. The inflorescences consist of ( 5) 10-15 (20 ) flowers. Cover sheets are available. The fruits are white yellow.

The flowering period extends from April to May

Occurrence

The king daphne occurs in the Balkans in light deciduous and coniferous forests, glades and on stony slopes at altitudes up to 1200 meters.

Use

The king daphne is rarely used as an ornamental plant for groups of trees.
